Greater Vancouver

The Greater Vancouver Advisory Council handles the planning and implementation of local HRMA activities and is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice.

HRMA members are encouraged to participate on the Advisory Council and/or provide suggestions and ideas of local interest. The Greater Vancouver Advisory Council welcomes input from all HRMA members who would like to be involved with the growth of HR practice in the region. A call for volunteers on the Council is made in the spring each year.

Your Greater Vancouver Advisory Council:

Chair – Rochester (Rocky) Ozaki, CHRP

Rocky is the Culture & Operations Director at Benevoland, and principal consultant at Expect Excellence HR consulting. He has over a decade of Director level HR experience and has a passion for organizational development and effectiveness. This is his second year on the advisory council.

Gene Lang

Outgoing Chair – Gene Lang, CHRP

Gene is the Vice President of Franchise Development for Dominion Lending Centres Inc. He has worked as an HR Generalist primarily with small businesses in high-tech and engineering and currently oversees all aspects of HR Management and Compliance for this national franchisor of mortgage brokerages. He began serving on the Seed Advisory Council in October 2008.

Administrator – Amy Turnbull

Amy is a Recruitment Assistant at ICBC. She graduated in 2012 with honours from the Human Resources Management Diploma program at BCIT. Amy is passionate about Human Resources and continually adding value to the organization she is a part of. This is her first year on council.

Brenda Kennedy

Awards – Brenda Kennedy, CHRP

Brenda has worked as an HR professional for 15 years in the private and public sectors since receiving her Master’s degree in Industrial Relations. She is a Director of Human Resources for Compass Group Canada. This is her third year on the Greater Vancouver Advisory Council.

CHRP & Professional Development – Paul Darbyshire, CHRP

Paul is a senior Human Resources manager with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He has worked as an Human Resources manager sine 2004, predominantly in the area of Employee and Management Relations. This is his first year on the advisory council.

Communications – Nilesh Bhagat, CHRP

Nilesh is a rewards analyst with Best Buy Canada. Nilesh graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2010 and continues to pursue learning through his work and with HRMA. He enjoys reading and writing, and has had the opportunity to collaborate on HRVoice.org blogs and PeopleTalk publications.

Membership – Eric Bulmash

Eric is the Manager of Learning and Development Innovation at Vancity. He has worked in leadership and talent development roles over the past decade, both as an external consultant and within the telecom industry. Eric’s focus is to develop leaders, people practices and organizational culture to make organizations more effective, efficient and sustainable.

Mentoring – Marie Gonzales, CHRP

Marie is Manager, Human Resources Advisory Services at Douglas College. A Human Resources professional with over 20 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors, her focus is on the essential levers of individual and organizational productivity and success. It is her second year on council.

Shandele Yuen

Networking – Shandele Yuen

Shandele is a Recruitment Consultant at Critical Search, specializing in legal support roles. She completed a Certificate in Human Resources Management at BCIT. This is Shandele’s fourth year on the advisory council.

Elena Romero

Networking – Elena Romero, CHRP

Elena is the Manager, Staffing Services at The Personnel Department. She is a graduate of the HR Diploma Program from the BCIT and also holds her B.A. in Psychology from Simon Fraser University. This is her fourth year on council.

Post Secondary Liaison – Scott Hanley, CHRP

Originally from Calgary, AB, Scott moved out West in 2004 to complete a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria. Following that, Scott moved to the mainland to engage his passion in Human Resources Management at BCIT. In 2012 Scott graduated with honours from the two-year diploma program. He is currently working in Human Resources in downtown Vancouver and this is his second year on the advisory council.

Mable Loc

Post Secondary Liaison – Mable Lo

Mable is a Human Resources Advisor at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree specializing in Sociology and has completed a Certificate in Human Resources Management at Simon Fraser University. Recently, Mable has completed a Graduate Certificate program in Strategic HR Management at Royal Roads University and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. This is her second year on the advisory council.

Govind Minhas

Volunteering – Govind Minhas

Govind is a HR Coordinator for Boulevard Casino. He graduated from SFU with a degree in Business Administration. His area of specialty is recruitment and employee retention/engagement. It is Govind’s fourth year on the council.
