The Greater Vancouver Advisory Council handles the planning and implementation of local HRMA activities and is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice.

Your Greater Vancouver Advisory Council:


Chair – Rochester (Rocky) Ozaki, CHRP

Rocky has been a senior HR leader for 15-years and is currently the Director of People & Culture at His passions are in organizational design, development & effectiveness and have strategically transitioned himself into BC’s uber-exciting and rapidly growing technology sector. This is Rocky’s third year on the advisory council.


Incoming Chair + CHRP & PD – Paul Darbyshire, CHRP

Paul has recently retired after a 35 year career in the RCMP; his last 10 years were spent in the Human Resources Branch as a senior director.   Paul is a proven expert in the area of Employee and Management Relations and more generally, in all areas of HR.  This is Paul’s second year on the advisory council.

Administrator – Amy Turnbull

Amy is the HR Coordinator at Ballard Power Systems, and previously worked as a Recruitment Assistant at ICBC. She graduated in 2012 with honours from the Human Resources Management Diploma program at BCIT and is committed to continually adding value to the organization she is a part of. This is her second year on council.


Awards – Brenda Kennedy, CHRP

Brenda has worked as an HR professional for over 15 years in the private and public sectors since receiving her Master’s degree in Industrial Relations. She is a Director of Human Resources for Compass Group Canada. This is her fourth year on the Greater Vancouver Advisory Council.


Communications – Nilesh Bhagat, CHRP

Nilesh is a senior rewards analyst with Best Buy Canada. Nilesh graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2010 and continues to pursue learning through his work and with BC HRMA. He enjoys reading and writing, and has had the opportunity to collaborate on blogs and PeopleTalk publications. This is his second year on the Greater Vancouver Advisory Council.

Elena Romero

Membership – Elena Romero, CHRP

Elena is the Manager, Staffing Services at TPD. She is a graduate of the HR Diploma Program from the BCIT and also holds her B.A. in Psychology from SFU. This is her fifth year on council.

Mentoring – Marie Gonzales, CHRP

Marie is the Manager, Human Resources Advisory Services at Douglas College. A Human Resources professional with over 20 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors, her focus is on the essential levers of individual and organizational productivity and success. It is her third year on council.


Networking – Shandele Yuen

Shandele is a Recruitment Consultant with Critical Search, specializing in legal support staff roles. She completed a Certificate in Human Resources Management at BCIT, and is working towards her Diploma in Human Resources Management Studies at TRU. This is Shandele’s fifth year on the advisory council.


Networking – Sara Collis, CHRP

Sara is an HR Advisor with the E-Comm 9-1-1 Vancouver.  She graduated from the BCIT Human Resources Management program in 2010, obtaining a CHRP the same year.  It is her first year on the advisory council.


Post Secondary – Scott Hanley, CHRP

Scott is an HR Coordinator at Moving Picture Company (a division of Technicolor Canada). He completed a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria and received honours level in the two-year HR diploma program from BCIT. This is Scott’s third year on the advisory council.

Mable Loc

Post Secondary – Mable Lo

Mable is an HR Advisor at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She has a degree specializing in Sociology from UBC, a Certificate in Human Resources Management from SFU, completed a Graduate Certificate program in Strategic HR Management at Royal Roads University and working on her Masters in Interdisciplinary studies. This is Mable’s second year on the advisory council.


Volunteering – Govind Minhas

Govind is a SFU alumnus with 4+ years of experience in the HR industry. His area of specialty is recruitment and employee retention/engagement. It is Govind’s 5th year on the council.
