The Vancouver Island Advisory Council handles the planning and implementation of local HRMA activities and is made up of members representing a broad range of HR experience levels and areas of practice.

Your Vancouver Island Advisory Council:


Chair – Helen Wale

Helen joined the advisory council in 2010 in the Communications Portfolio, in 2011 she was the lead the Awards Portfolio, and then spent a year as Incoming Chair and is now in her second year as the Chair for Vancouver Island. Helen is Project Manager and Executive Coach with Island Health.


Incoming Chair – Meg Burrows, CHRP

Meg is the Manager of Human Resources for Western Financial Group and was previously on the Membership Portfolio for Vancouver Island, and the Chair of the Coastal Vancouver Advisory Council.  Returning to Vancouver Island, Meg stepped into the role of Incoming Chair in 2014.


Awards – Nella Garman, CHRP

Nella spent two years working as a Research Assistant in the Awards Portfolio and we are pleased that she took on the lead role in 2013, making this her second year on the advisory council.  Nella is an HR Consultant with the University of Victoria.


CHRP and Professional Development – Glenn Barned, CHRP

Glenn is in his second year as the Lead of the CHRP/PD Portfolio, responsible for the oversight of Roundtables throughout the Island, professional development and CHRP activities. Glenn is an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant with his own firm, RGB Enterprises.


Communications – Ingrid Vaughan

Ingrid is in her first year on the Vancouver Island Advisory Council and leads a team of volunteer writers for the HRVoice.


Membership – Deborah Pike, CHRP

Deborah is in her first year on the council and can be found hosting Members Only Breakfasts on the 4th Friday of each month and leading a team of volunteers to phone new members. She is a Training and Development Coordinator with WCG International HR Solutions.


Mentoring –   Deborah Lang, CHRP

Deborah is our Mentoring Lead, hosting Orientations, Mid-Point Learning and Wind-Up sessions, as well as connecting with the Mentoring Pairs throughout the year.  Deborah is a Senior Learning Consultant with Insights Vancouver.


Networking – Lyndsey Nelson, CHRP

Lyndsey was part of the Networking Portfolio as an Ambassador, before accepting the responsibility to be the Lead of this Portfolio in 2013 – this is her second year on the Advisory Council.  Lyndsey is an Associate with EngagedHR.


Post Secondary – Pamela MacIntosh-Snell, CHRP

Pamela began volunteering in the Membership Portfolio and was the lead for the Victoria Roundtable prior to joining the advisory council in 2014.  She liaises with post secondary representatives from Camosun, Vancouver Island University, Royal Roads, North Island College and the University of Victoria.  Pamela is a HR Consultant and Office Manager for Grant Thornton, LLP.


Volunteering – Rebecca Lumley, CHRP

This is Rebecca’s fourth year on the Vancouver Island Advisory Council and she is responsible for the recruitment, placement and engagement of volunteers working with the various portfolios. Rebecca is the Manager, Human Resources & Organizational Development with the BC Oil and Gas Commission.


Advisor – Carole Gosse, CHRP

Carole has been serving the Vancouver Island advisory council in the role of Mentoring Lead for many years and now shares her expertise in an advisory role.  She is an instructor in the HRM program at Camosun College.
