CHRP Policies


Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) dues collected by HRMA allow us to fulfill the mandate of administering the CHRP in BC and our commitment to offering a high standard of service. A part of the dues covers governance, staffing, supplies and the development of new CHRP marketing and promotional material. The remainder of the fees allows HRMA to work in conjunction with the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA) to maintain the standards and continuously raise the profile of CHRP at both the provincial and national level. One hundred per cent of professional dues collected by HRMA are reinvested in the CHRP designation. Professional dues are $155 plus tax annually, in addition to your membership dues.

CHRP Recertification

CHRP holders are required to recertify every three years through their provincial association. Recertification is achieved through an assessment of professional development activity. CHRP Recertification Audit

Recertification audits are carried out by the Recertification Audit Committee twice a year. Selection of a recertification log for audit is random based on CHRP ID numbers. The audit process will reconfirm the eligibility for recertification, review the completeness of documentation, and verify the appropriateness, suitability and adequacy of the professional development activities listed in the recertification log. If audited, a CHRP holder must provide supporting documents for their recertification log to the recertification committee within 30 days. Find out more about CHRP Recertification Audits.

Code of Ethics

CHRP holders commit themselves to high standards of ethical behaviour. All CHRPs are held to the CCHRA National Code of Ethics which cover a range of important professional issues including confidentiality, conflict of interest, professional growth and more. The Code of Ethics demands the highest standards for the HR profession.

Leave of Absence

A professional member who is granted parental or disability leave from their place of employment may apply for suspended membership and recertification extensions. Professional members retiring may apply for retired member status. Find out more about leaves of absence.

Transfer from/to Another Province

To maintain your CHRP designation you must maintain membership in HRMA or the association responsible for CHRP certification in the province where you reside. When a professional member of HRMA moves to another province, they are required to transfer their membership to the association of the new province of residence.
